Holly Senn is really cool. I know, I say that about everyone. But Holly creates her sculptural installations out of discarded library books. It’s funny in part because Holly herself has worked in corporate and academic libraries for much of her career. How many of us haven’t wanted to tear up some of our work and make something more fun with it.
Per usual I’m attracted to the vessel form as well as its bulbous quality.
And hives. I love a great hive. I think I might love this one even more if it was wall mounted, not on the stick but literally just coming out of the wall. I also really think it’s great that she leaves the pieces neutral in tone so that you can still see the print itself. I love a good neutral color palette and letting your materials literally speak for you.
How neat are those? Holly works out of Tacoma, Washington – she might be the first Washingtonian I’ve ever profiled here.
In her own artists statement she says, “In these labor-intensive works she explores the life cycle of ideas—how ideas are generated, dispersed, referenced or forgotten.” I love a good laborious art process! Commitment.
